International Events 2016: GEOSummit Berne, FOSSGIS Salzburg, FOSS4G Bonn and SoTM Brussels

Dear Mappers, Forthcoming year there are several events announced - not only for techies and not only in english: * 8.+9. Juni 2016: GEOSummit 2016 (de/fr/en), Bern Expo, Berne (CH). www.geosummit.ch (Call-for-Papers bis 31. Januar 2016, Call-for-Posters bis 31. März 2016) * 4.-6. Juli 2016: FOSSGIS 2016 (de/en), Uni Salzburg (A). www.fossgis-konferenz.de/2016/ (CfP bis 1. Februar 2016) * 24.-26 August 2016: FOSS4G 2016 - Open Source GIS Conference (en), Bonn (D). http://2016.foss4g.org/ (CfP ca. March 2016) * 23.-25. September 2016: State of the Map (SoTM) - OpenStreetMap Conference (en). Brussels (B). http://2016.stateofthemap.org/ (CfP soon) I can recommend everybody to participate these events and I suggest that techies think about submitting a contribution. I can especially recommend to submit your/our project as a poster to GEOSummit 2016! This has a low barrier to entry and a highly promising setting. :Stefan

Post office inside Migros

Dear All On small town Die Post is moving they own shop inside the Migros shop with only a small desk, in some case is only a self service computer in others case there is also an operator. How you tag this kind of "Desk Post Office" Thanks a lot G4rp

Updated street name completeness data

I've updated the GWR street name list (see http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OSM_-_GWR_Street_and_Place_Names_Compari…) to the BfS data from this November. Overall the effect seems to be positive, comparing http://qa.poole.ch/ch-roads/namestats_road-2015-11-27.png to http://qa.poole.ch/ch-roads/namestats_road.png This is likely to be due to improved categorisation on behalf of the municipalities, there are however some areas where coverage has gone down, please check these. Overall we now 85% of the roads correctly named, compared to a very early on visualisation qa.poole.ch/ch-roads/namestats_road-2013-03-01.png the improvements are obvious. As I've pointed out before there is still a lot of low hanging fruit that could be easily be checked and if necessary corrected. There are roughly 2'500 roads (2%!) which may have a small difference between official spelling and how the name is recorded in OSM and naturally some of these might be real typos. The map is changing ...

It has been announced many times and discussed in depth, but you may have not realized that the "standard" style on openstreetmap.org is changing significantly today. Not everybody is going to be happy, but it has been obvious for a longer time that the style, as it was, designed for a low data density OpenStreetMap, had to change to continue to be useful in the future. The main and most noticeable changes affect the road rendering and are the result of a google summer of code project. Oneway für Fussgänger?

Wir haben hier in Lausanne einen kleinen Fussweg, der an einem Ende von einer Einweg-Drehtür abgeschlossen wird. Daher kann man diesen Weg (bzw. diese Drehtür) nur in einer Richtung passieren. https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/61123307 https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/61240570 Wie könnte man so etwas mappen, damit das Fussgänger-Routing über diesen Weg nur in eine Richtung laufen kann? Das Tag oneway=yes gilt ja nur für Fahrzeuge, nicht aber für Fussgänger. Gruss, Thorsten

Vorwarnung Hardbrücke - Rosengartenstrasse - Bucheggstrasse

Eine kleine Vorwarnung: ein Mapper hat vor ein paar Monaten auf der obengenannten Strecke ein extremes Einzelspurmapping gemacht (d.h. für jede Spur einen einzelnen Weg gezeichnet, inklusive Busspur), dass ist zwar sehr viel Arbeit gewesen, ist aber, natürlich, völlig falsch. Da der Mapper auf ein Changesetkommentar von vor ein paar Wochen nicht reagiert hat, bin ich jetzt dran, dass ganze händisch zu flicken (sprich kein Revert), m.a.W. es ist gut möglich das die ÖV Routen iauf der Strecke eine Weile kaputt sind. Übrigens haben wir das gleiche Problem mit dem Bucheggplatz, wenn sich jeman darum kümmern wiill, nur vor. Simon
