Hi
Thanks I see the need for a more fine grained rendering of Nordic slopes, but there is always the map colouring dilemma. There are only a handful of easily recognized and differentiating colours available.
There was the idea of splitting up the map into the different modes of transportation. I didn't do it, but it is an option.
The drawing of downhill slopes is pretty standardized, but Nordic pistes vary in colour, or are arbitrarily coloured by route, which makes it a bit difficult to find a simple, concise colouring or dashing scheme. I'm open to good suggestions.
So in the end, your awesome map at http://www.pistes-nordiques.org already does the job for Nordic skiers, so people specifically interested in nordic skiing can directly go there and are very well served. So what I did now is maybe more directed at the 'Sissies' ;).

Good job! Would be great to have the nordic pistes and relations in color too. I mean, other than pink, *lifts* are for sissies :)

Dear fellow mappers
During this winter, I have taken lonvias excellent route map [1] framework [2] and extended it to render skiing slopes, sledding pistes and snowshoe trails. If you want to have a look go to http://slopemap.osmd.ch, and look for your favourite winter sports area.
The map displays ways and relations tagged with piste:type, and for downhill skiing requires the tag piste:difficulty.
A short remark for the tagging: pistes are usually mapped as ways. I have seen quite a few examples where the name of the piste was mapped as the name tag, or the number as ref. To avoid ambiguity, use the piste:ref tag for the number/letter and the piste:name tag for the name.
Have a nice weekend Michael
