Hello,
For a (very?) long time, Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Bern, Lausanne, and then Winterthur, were the only place=city in Switzerland. What about Biel/Bienne, Lugano, St Gallen? There have been some changes in the last few months.
Regards Marc
Thank you Marc.
In this document, it's useful that a city must not compulsory include more than 100000 inhabitants in the central commune of an agglomeration. https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:place%3Dcity
As examples, the following communes are "city" with less than 100000 inhabitants:
Lucerne: 82000 Saint-Gall: 76000 Belfort: 45000 Troyes: 62000 Chambéry: 59000 Valence: 64000 Biella: 45000 Côme: 83000 Varèse: 80000
On official maps from Switzerland, Bienne (56000) and Lugano (62000) are on the same level with Lucerne and Saint-Gall. https://map.geo.admin.ch
For homogenity reasons, we have either to change Bienne and Lugano from town to city or to change the cities of this list (and others) from city to town. The second option take no sense, may make a lot of people angry and induce long useless discussions.
So, I suggest to switch Bienne and Lugano from the category "town" to "city" with the arguments:
- The agglomeration of both have more than 100000 inhabitants - They are on the same level in the swiss geography
Best regards Patrick
