* is shop=convenience sometimes preferable tagging for Volg? * is shop=supermarket sometimes preferable tagging for Volg? Is it maybe describing objects using the same name, but operating under different brands? Or is it a popular name among independent shops, without shared brand?
This brand may be described at https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volg
I am asking as I want to improve https://github.com/osmlab/name-suggestion-index/ and I lack local knowledge how it should be tagged. Data from this project are used for example by iD and Vespucci. Improving it may help mappers using this editors as they will be guided better during editing. In case that multiple tags can be correct depending on a situation it will be marked that both versions are OK.
entries in name-suggestion-index are currently following:
(1) tags assigned: * shop=convenience * name=Volg * brand=Volg
(2) tags assigned: * shop=supermarket * name=Volg * brand=Volg * brand:wikidata=Q2530746 * brand:wikipedia=de:Volg
limited to countries: * Switzerland (ch) * Liechtenstein (li)
According to my expericence shops named Volg come in different sizes. Depending on the actual shop we have to choose between supermarket and convenience. All of them belong to the same organisation.
Greetings

Hello Mateusz,
thanks for our QA work :) some Volg shop are small, but imho all are : shop=supermarket brand=Volg brand:wikidata=Q2530746
- brand:wikipedia=de:Volg
that may be a problem for shop in Romandie (the french-speaking part of the country) if one day a wikipedia-fr page is created, but this is not the case today

I'd say it depends on how shop=convenience is defined. Unfortunately, the definition on the wiki is not very clear to me.
If it's primarily about the size (the availability of push trolleys), then some Volg shops are shop=convenience; some of them are smaller than shops at petrol stations or train stations (smaller than 100 m²).
If it's primarily about the range of goods (the presence of convenience food and single-serving food items ), then they are all shop=supermarket.
I wouldn't call them neither convenience shop nor supermarket, but village shop. However, we don't have such a tag.

in my opinion, this is the main criterion
single-serving food items
in my opinion this criterion is not relevant, almost all shop have a frozen pizza to help out, whether it is a 20m2 convenience store or a 3M migros supermarket
I wouldn't call them neither convenience shop nor supermarket, but village shop. However, we don't have such a tag.
so let's use shop=convenience for all ? or supermarket ? or no default ?
I would also add the tag: image=https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Volg#/media/File:2012-08-28_Regi... for the stores for which exists a photo in the Volg Commons category: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Volg
On this particular photo I can see that there is a bicycle parking rack for 5+ bicycles near the shop, the car parking, the post box, and the supermarket trolleys. It could be a useful information for a traveler planning a trip to this town. The HD image also could be handy for a mapper who is mapping say the post boxes or bicycle parking racks, as it possible to see its exact location and its capacity.
I remember I've made an aerial image for the Colovray Sport Center Wikipedia article in the canton of Vaud: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centre_sportif_de_Colovray and I added the link to this image on the OSM map: https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/245395546
Then couple of years later I had to go to this sport center for the Escalade race public training. And I already forgot if there was a parking there. I looked on the map, saw that there is the parking nearby, and also saw this parking and its entrances on the photo. So the image was helpful even for me who had been there earlier and who made it.
Best regards, Oleksiy
