Hi,

So I have run the list of users, who have agreed[1], over the Switzerland excerpt from Geofabrik of last night and made a statistic similar to the one published on talk-de for Germany, simply counting the last editor of all objects. This should give us a rough idea. It does, however, not take into account the history of previous edits and gives equal weight to changes on nodes, ways and relations. Those assumptions will certainly not hold when the final decisions have to made about the license change.
Below find a list of the 100 most active mappers, percentage of contribution and if they have agreed to the new contributor terms[2].
Altogether, 3267 users have contributed to the Swiss excerpt but 95% of the data was contributed by only 500 mappers. At the moment 708 of the users active in Switzerland have agreed, making up a total of 40% of the data.

Hi,
I did not contributed much to Openstreetmap : I just mapped my village, Conthey and added some information in Vevey. But I would like to add my agreement to the licence changes for my contributions, and I consider them as Public Domain.

If you haven't seen it yet on talk-de, there's now a map with the ODBL status of the ways color-coded (visible from zoom level 9 on).

Hi,
at the last OSM meeting in Zurich, the question was raised where we are in Switzerland with respect to the proposed licence change[3], that is, how many of Swiss mappers have already agreed to the new licence.

Out of the 3331 users that edited in Switzerland now 869 have agreed, that makes 57.5% of all data.

maybe we should get in touch with those who have not agreed yet but contributed a significant amount of data to ch-osm... ? not to convert them but to ask if they forgot about it... currently some cities and villages would suffer a substantial amount of data loss :(
There's about a further 10% that should be easy (in the sense that it's only a handful of mappers) to get.
I've also approached mappers that I've been in contact with in the past (for other reasons) and have pointed the license change process out to them.

A couple of more numbers:
- of the top 100 mappers 55 have already accepted the CTs/ODBL, amounting to 51.1% of the data
- the 45 that haven't agreed yet would give us an additional 25% of the data (bringing the total to 82%)
- of the top 819 mappers amounting to 98% of the data, 600 haven't agreed yet
- the 600 account for 31% of the data

I switched the numbers around by accident, should be:
- of the top 100 mappers 45 have already accepted the CTs/ODBL, amounting to 51.1% of the data
- the 55 that haven't agreed yet would give us an additional 25% of the data (bringing the total to 82%)
getting hold of 55 persons and getting the majority of them to agree is still a trivial exercise.

Quick update (based on list from Sarah from the 11th, top 100 updated manually by me):
- of the top 10, nine (9) have accepted the CTs, leaving Marc Mongenet as the sole mapper missing (if somebody knows him, it would be a good idea to contact him)
- of the top 100 there are 46 mappers remaining that need to be pointed to the relicensing process, the 54 that have relicensed amount to 56.54% of the data
- in total, adding in a couple of mappers in the top 1000 I know have accepted, we are already over 63%

PS: Sarah if you regenerate your list, could you put tabs between the fields? :-) Thanks.

shall we make a wiki table based on Sara's list in order to keep track of who contacted whom, together with a "Musterbrief" in 3 german, french and italian everybody can use? Maybe it makes sense that members contact nearby mappers to remind them of the license stuff or discuss open questions with them, so as little data as possible gets lost. I think it's worth a try. I believe something along this lines could be done. We would need the numeric id in the table, since it really has to be mandatory to check in the current list (http://planet.openstreetmap.org/users_agreed/) if somebody has agreed or not.
Not that we bombard somebody that has already accepted with mail :-).
I would also recommend having a look at the edit history of the mapper in question (make that a link in the table). That makes it easy to determine if she/he has simple missed the relicensing process by being incative for a while (which is the best intro to a mail).
All that said, I do believe that as a first step, simply getting in contact with mappers that you know personally (not necessarilly in person) that haven't signed up, should be done regardless of any additional technical tools.

Who will contact the remaining 46/100 mappers? and should we somehow contact the rest too? In the end every bit of data that does not get lost helps, so in my opinion it's well worth a try!

Quick update (based on list from Sarah from the 11th, top 100 updated manually by me):
- of the top 10, nine (9) have accepted the CTs, leaving Marc
Mongenet as the sole mapper missing (if somebody knows him, it would be a good idea to contact him)
- of the top 100 there are 46 mappers remaining that need to be
pointed to the relicensing process, the 54 that have relicensed amount to 56.54% of the data
- in total, adding in a couple of mappers in the top 1000 I know
have accepted, we are already over 63% Simon
PS: Sarah if you regenerate your list, could you put tabs between the fields? :-) Thanks.

I switched the numbers around by accident, should be:
- of the top 100 mappers 45 have already accepted the CTs/ODBL,
amounting to 51.1% of the data
- the 55 that haven't agreed yet would give us an additional 25% of
the data (bringing the total to 82%)
getting hold of 55 persons and getting the majority of them to agree is still a trivial exercise.

I see that something more automatized is called for. ;) Here we go...
I have created a new list with yesterday's data. From now on the agreement column in this list will be updated once a day with the latest agreement data, so you can easily check, who should still be contacted. Note, however, that I will not update the underlying OSM data because that involves downloading the Swiss excerpt from Geofabrik. Something I don't want to do every day.
Place is still the same: http://osm.lonvia.de/stuff/odbl_agreement_ch.txt
We are at 65% now. (But I see that 0.4% of this are from the recent Didok import. Just as a reminder that everything should be taken with a grain of salt.)
Cheers, Sarah
Thanks Sarah
This helps a lot.
BTW if I didn't think that the relicensing process had so high priority, I would have suggested that the project of the month (or actually rest of the year), should be mapping all missing roads that have stops on them from the Didok import.

I absolutely agree about the importance of relicensing and I'm glad to see that you have taken such an active interest.
I've changed the format of the list once more moving the names in the last row to make it human-readable with the tabs again. All the other rows remain unchanged.

Go to http://openstreetmap.org/user/terms
You have to be logged in with your OSM credentials. There you can see the new license and accept it. Please note that the Contributor Terms are likely to change some more, mostly to clarify things for imports. You can see a draft of the new CTs here: https://docs.google.com/View?id=dc3bxdhs_0cc77vdd9
More background info about the license is here: http://www.osmfoundation.org/wiki/License/We_Are_Changing_The_License

Simon
Top 10 complete (thanks Marc).
This brings us somewhere near or over 70% of the data relicensed in total, and 41 mappers missing from the top 100.

Hallo Sarah,

Gruss
