Hi Marius
How is the map in the magnifying glass linked to the main map?
It seems like zooming the main map does not always cause the image in the magnifying glass to zoom. It even appears that sometime it has the same coverage as the main map, just a lot smaller!
I like the idea of having the bigger context for the section of the map being shown in the main display. I often zoom in too far, and then have no idea in which direction i need to move to see what i want to see. But maybe a magnifying glass is counter intuitive? You normally expect a more fine detailed view inside the glass, not an overview.
Also, the image in the glass seems to have an overlay of some binary numbers. You need to zoom out so there is blue sea before they become visible, but i think they are there at all zoom levels.
I like the Swiss outline in the direction cross box, and the way it brings you back to "home". Maybe i would of had the default for one zoom level higher, so there is less of FR, DE, AU, IT shown, but it depends on the size of the display. On my small laptop display, the next zoom level chops of part or Kantons TI and VS. So it is a good compromise.
I personally would like to see a hiking map in the selection of base layers. Most of my contributions to OSM tend to be mountain paths. I like to see the contour lines. The cycle map has these, has the paths rendered, but is missing cable cars, which for me makes the maps unusable for planning hikes.
The <Map> <Wiki> <OSM.org> buttons are interesting. Have you thought about using CSS to make them appear on the wiki as well so there is a more consistent look and feel? Not even sure if its possible, since the wiki is on a different host.
Overall, I like it.
Andrew

I use the OpenLayers OverviewMap for this.

I used the magnifying glass from the new OSM logo [1] including ist numbers and shine.

Its a bounding box it zooms to. Depending on display size it use different zoom levels. May a can shrink this bounding as it's is to big now

Adding layers should not be a big thing.

Nop, all openstreetmap.org sites are out of out control.

The magnifier is a good idea! You should move the permalink elsewhere though, maybe just over the flags? To look more Swiss, you could replace the '+' sign in the zoom bar and the layer switcher by a swiss cross (half-joking). The font and style in the bottom title (OpenStreetMap.ch and the line under) looks messy. Maybe a lighter font-weight? I don't know.
Yves
Can you add a search function to the new site, to search by locality for example?
I'd have suggested DE|FR|EN... instead of flags for the languages..
Sean
Hello,
Excellent I really like the magnifier ;-)
For the translation of news for me « nouvelles » is relay better than « informations » ;-)
For the mat there is a little issue with the attribution and the permalink, the magnifier is on the top than it's impossible to click on it.
Finally do you plane to share the sources on github or something like that to easier purpose a fix or an improvement.
