Hi all
I started to replace occurrences of addr:interpolation=* in Switzerland with single addresses from GWR using the de-facto standard (Karlsruhe Schema), i.e. with addr:street=* and addr:housenumber=*.
Address interpolations are described at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Addresses#Using_interpolation . They are easily created but have several disadvantages:
- They are inaccurate when addresses are distributed irregularly - They need extra effort for parsing compared to addresses using the Karlsruhe Schema - A surprisingly large number of interpolations is incorrectly tagged: Closed ways, missing house numbers, interpolation types (e.g. "odd") not matching to house number (e.g. "16"), etc.
For these reasons I believe it would be best to remove all those interpolations in Switzerland.
Here is a possible workflow using JOSM:
- Choose an interpolation line using an Overpass query: https://osm.li/BdF - Click one of the ways, open its link, e.g. https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/155022798 - Use the "Edit" button to download the area surrounding the interpolation line in JOSM - Determine the name of the municipality, look up its Wikipedia article, determine its BFS number - Load the corresponding GWR data set from https://qa.poole.ch/addresses/GWR/ into a new layer (.osm format works well) - Copy all addresses that were interpolated from GWR into the JOSM data layer - Delete the interpolation line, possibly also the address nodes at the end - Upload - Repeat
I have two questions regarding this:
1. Does anybody oppose the systematic (but still manual) replacement of interpolation lines by the addresses from GWR? 2. Is anybody willing to support me by replacing some addresses on his/her own? There are currently 97 interpolation lines left.
Best regards
Lukas
