The back draw of Xapi or WFS is the server power which is required. Even with a powerful CH-Xapi service we most probably have to wait until the draw have finished to loading the POIs. It's just not as eye candy as possible. Google solve this by rendering the POIs into the map tiles and loading the magic area with popup later. This way you get a nice map including poi as soon as the tiles are loaded but the POIs don't "work" until you stop dragging. Which don't hurt anyway. This was the reason for me to implement the Tile based POIs where it's possible to load some extra tiles outside of the actual view like the map-tile layer do.
