Frage zu Namen mit St aka Sankt
by Fred Jelk 22 May '14

22 May '14

(siehe in GWR z.b. St. Silvester; auch Ortstafeln, Wegweiser usw werden immer mit St. Silvester geschrieben) Hello, in OSM the names with "St." should be tagged as "Sankt" or "Saint" (also, if there are foundin OSM a lot of names in CH with "St."). Now, I have a question: what's about the tags is_in=* and addr:city=*? Should the names there also write out with Sankt / Saint or should there be used the official names - if its official shorten? (p.e. in GWR you find St. Silvester; also on the road sign, signposts ect there is always St. Silvester written) Gruss und schönes Wochenende Fred

UNIGIS webinar on "Making Maps from OpenStreetMap Data", June 10, 17:00 (MEZ)
by Stefan Keller 18 May '14

18 May '14

Dear Mappers, I was invited to give a short online lecture - and I chose to present this: -Stefan --- UNIGIS International regurarly provides webinars - so called u_Lectures (*). At June 10 17:00 MEZ Prof. Stefan Keller is speaking on "Making Maps from OpenStreetMap Data". Registration is now open: https://www3.gotomeeting.com/register/179829006 This presentation explains how to make a map with an own style given some amount of cartographic knowledge. The combination of freely accessible worldwide established OpenStreetMap (OSM) data and open source tools empower people to do their own cartographic visualization. A core element of this presentation is a handbook with selected software tools and programming scripts. First we go through the steps and tools needed to produce a basemap or a thematic map supported by a gallery of predefined styles. Then we look at related aspects of preprocessing like database (tag) homogenization and cartographic generalization. --- (*) u_Lectures are presented by invited speakers from academia, the GI industry, public administration, NGOs and other actors in the field of Geoinformatics and GIScience. Available primarily to UNIGIS alumni and active UNIGIS students, this online lecture series serves as a professional and academic 'updating' opportunity within a generic 'lifelong learning' framework. Fwd: [Wikimediach-l] Wikimedia Hackathon 2014

FYI... cheeers, h. -------- Original-Nachricht -------- Betreff: [Wikimediach-l] Wikimedia Hackathon 2014 Datum: Thu, 15 May 2014 01:20:47 +0200 Von: Patrick Kenel <patkenel(a)hotmail.com> Antwort an: Wikimedians in Switzerland <wikimediach-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org> An: wikimediach-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org <wikimediach-l(a)lists.wikimedia.org>, chapters(a)wikimedia.ch <chapters(a)wikimedia.ch> Dear all, Last weekend, Wikimedia CH has been the host of the annual Wikimedia Hackathon at the Youth Hostel in Zurich. About 160 developers from more than 30 countries worked for nearly three days on improving the MediaWiki interface, building future improvements for Wikipedia such as map support, and improving bug reporting and management. Bringing highly skilled people together in one place ensured that a lot of very good work was done. Even though I've visited the event only temporarily, I was pleased to have a conversion with a participant from Japan or to learn more about OpenStreetMap. Here's a blog post with a summary of the hackathon by an experienced member of the Wikimedia tech community: http://blog.wikimedia.org/2014/05/10/tech-wizards-behind-wikipedia-meet-in-…. One highlight of the hackathon was Lila Tretikov's visit. As of June 1st, Lila will be the new Executive Director at the Wikimedia Foundation in San Francisco, replacing Sue Gardner. This was her very first direct contact with the Community. She gave a quick talk and a Q&A, which you can watch in this video: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:2014-05-10_Wikimedia_Hackathon_Lila…. The whole event went very smoothly, and the feedback so far has been excellent. On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank again everyone involved (staff and volunteers), and in particular Manuel Schneider, for a tremendous work. Best regards, Patrick Kenel, President ~~~~ Wikimedia CH - Association for the advancement of free knowledge www.wikimedia.ch <http://www.wikimedia.ch> ------ File:Wikimedia Hackathon WMCH A900 231.jpg, Author: Christian Meixner, CC-BY 3.0

Vergleichen Sie sich mit dem GP-Sieger! - OSM Karten
by Andreas Bürki 12 May '14

12 May '14

One if the many outcomes of the Hackathon in Zurich this week end. __________________________________ [Maps-l] WP-geocoordinates filter by using Wikidata classes Tim Alder tim at alder-digital.de Fri May 9 22:01:39 UTC 2014 Previous message: [Maps-l] OpenStreetMap on WMFLabs/Toollabs Messages sorted by: [ date ] [ thread ] [ subject ] [ author ] Hello, I'm glad to can announce my last experiment to work with Wikidata and Wikipedia-coordinates: http://tools.wmflabs.org/wp-world/wikidata/superclasses.php?lang=en This list shows how many objects we have in different classes and provide links to maps with only this specific class. I think it's much more useful than in the past where 80% of our coordinates were simply a "landmark". To create this tool I used properties "is instance of"[1] and "is subclass of"[2]. To extract this properties it was necessary to use "Wikidata Query". Now all classes, where an object is a member, are in a numerical array-element in the database. So with an index on this array it should have a good performances. Next steps are to try to bring more order inside this list and support the community to create more "is instance of"-entries in Wikidata. (Only 30% off all objects have such an entry). Rencontre Suisse Romande wikipedia, 23 Août à Lausanne
by Charles Andrès 05 May '14

05 May '14

Très bonne semaine Charles ___________________________________________________________ I use this email for mailing list only. by Stefan Keller 04 May '14

04 May '14

Liebe Mapper Am Fr. 23. Das Motto ist "Mapping buildings and addresses in and around Rappi!"

Fwd: Re: [OKFN-CH] Swiss Transport Data: Next Steps / Opendata.ch Transport Working Group Kickoff
by Andreas Bürki 04 May '14

04 May '14

Hi A kick-off meeting for (open? hopefully!) Swiss transport data will take place May 15 in the later afternoon in Zürich. See details in Hannes message below. It looks to me, as nobody from OSM Community is attending this kick-off meeting... https://doodle.com/9ikwneuq4b7v5is9 At least nobody, neither from SOSM board (http://sosm.ch/about/board/) nor somebody volunteering and contributing value to OSM by e.g. importing transportation data (public transportation stops) as Michael. See his message from February 5th http://didok.osm.ch/ IMHO, OSM hackers with real, practical experience should attend such a kick-off meeting in order to add practical value from a OSM POV. cheeers, h. -------- Begin Original Message Working Group Kickoff -------- Betreff: Re: [OKFN-CH] Swiss Transport Data: Next Steps / Opendata.ch Transport Working Group Kickoff Datum: Sun, 4 May 2014 14:48:33 +0200 Von: Hannes Gassert <hannes(a)gassert.ch> An: okfn-ch(a)lists.okfn.org, Open Transport Data <transport(a)opendata.ch>, open-transport <open-transport(a)lists.okfn.org> To everybody interested in Swiss Open Transport Data: Many thanks to all of you who participated in the survey to find a kick-off date for our working group. Tha data used now is form the last time table change. With this update the map now resides on the SOSM server, and not on my personal one any more. The new address is http://didok.osm.ch It is quite a while since the initial import of DIDOK into OSM. Lots of things have changed, so please have a look at the map and see if something in your vicinity is outdated: Look for stops which are in OSM but not in DIDOK (layer "stops only in didok") Look for stops which are in DIDOK but not in OSM (layer "stops only in osm") Also, there are still 7200 unchecked stops which were imported from DIDOK which are potentially wrong.
