Bicycle route tagging

Hi all, The other day I noticed the way cycle routes are tagged in Switzerland. There, the usage of the name tag differs from the general usage of name tags within OSM. IMHO, we should not deviate from established tagging practices without a really good reason. Therefore, I took the liberty to modify http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/EN:Switzerland/CycleNetwork#Recommended_… and to change the name tag to be in line with the way it is used elsewhere in OSM and also http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Cycle_routes#Relations I also noticed that some relations have quite elaborate and long names. To reduce these to be just the names I have added the description and description:xx tags. There, the start and end points and possibly other information for the data user can be noted. I know there are arguments for the tagging the way it is now. The name tag gets displayed in JOSM and it is not rendered on any map anyway. But, we don't want to tag for editors and the map renderings might change and who knows who is rendering maps with and what styles anyway. I propose to change the tagging according to the current version of the wiki page. Unless there are strong objections I will start with that in a week or so. Happy mapping, Matthias

Bonjour, Suite à l'importation, pour le canton de Neuchatel, je remarque un fort décalage des frontières par rapport au WMS du canton [1] Par exemple, la frontière entre la Suisse et le France (frontière naturel, le Doubs) est environs 140m trop au Nord et 70m trop à l'Est. Hello, In the last French meeting I say that I say that I will seek about OpenLayers optimization (Download size ans parse time, but not execution speed) : Than to do that the goal is to have one js file with only what we need, it mean that we include only OpenLayers files that we need, we remove comments and unneeded spaces. To do that first we need the Openlayers sources: Version 2.10: svn export http://svn.openlayers.org/branches/openlayers/2.10/ openlayers Version 2.11 RC: svn checkout http://svn.openlayers.org/branches/openlayers/2.11/ openlayers Version trunk: svn checkout http://svn.openlayers.org/trunk/openlayers/ openlayers Go to the build directory: cd openlayers/build Create own profile: cp lite.cfg my.cfg edit my.cfg to replace 'OpenLayers/Layer/XYZ.js' by yours needed files (one per line), the dependencies will be check. Than build it: python build.py -c jsmin my.cfg OpenLayers-my.js The result is that to display an OSM layer we have a file size of only 121ko in place of about 1Mo for a full version of OpenLayers. To remove this error, I had to create a way through the place instead of adding the entire place. Exemple : Place de la navigation in Lausanne (I added the grey line) Do you think it's the correct way to do that ? I have done ways throw places/parkings mainly for having a clean GPX file for the walkers. I have contacted the FrancigenaLibrari to ask them if we can use the GPX files of the italian part on OSM. I've not looked at the two vector datasets, but it seems to me that there is a difference in the classification/tagging. I can't believe that we have just mapped half of all primary roads. Does anybody have an idea on how to examine this further? The railway numbers are probably that high because of the mapping of single railtracks. I still have to come up with a query to calculate the forest/wood area. Any hints? Taginfo Switzerland

Salut 'zamme, I have set up a Swiss version of the Taginfo service at http://taginfo.openstreetmap.ch This is a localized version of the global Taginfo service that only considers tagging within Switzerland. At the moment, the service is updated twice weekly. More frequent updates are possible on request. For those of you who have not heard of Taginfo before: this is a service that provides an overview of the actual tag usage in OSM. It allows to search for tags and gives statistics over usage. Bicycle Routes (keeping wiki uptodate)

I've been doing some clean up in the wiki (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/EN:Switzerland/CycleNetwork) on Swiss bicycle routes (and some on the routes themselves). Could everybody mapping the routes please add their work to the wiki and try and keep it up to date? Since the cyclemap has serious delays in rendering (up to multiple months), the wiki is our only record and reference what has been done, that can give us a more or less current status. Hoi zämä Potlatch2: nun habe ich in Aarberg eine Strasse der Bing-Karte angepasst und nun ist die Haltstestelle 'im Cacooo' (verschoben) Ist diese Karte gar nicht genau - kann / darf man sie gar nicht gebrauchen oder macht M$ wieder mal ein eigenes Spiel? Die *Karte* von Bing darfst du nicht gebrauchen. Die *Satellitenbilder* schon. Aber Achtung, die Satellitenbilder weisen teilweise einen Versatz auf. Da du allerdings mit Potlatch editiert hast, gehe ich davon aus du meinst hier die Satellitenbilder. > > Was ist zu tun? > http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=47.049099&lon=7.271943&zoom=18&layers=M An besagtem Ort scheint es so, als ob die Luftbilder tatsächlich verschoben sind, da sind einige Strassen nicht Deckungsgleich mit dem Satellitenbild. In diesem Fall sollten die GPS Tracks als genauer gewichtet werden. Ungenau wird es vor allem, wenn einige Strassen dem Satellitenbild, andere den GPS Tracks folgen, das ergibt eine ziemlich "verzerrte" Darstellung. Gruess Beni
