Hi Marc, Thanks for you answer. In your example "Misery-Courtion" and "Misery" are not the labelled with the same size, so I'm not sure that is the same case as for Vevey (where the labels are the same size). Any other ideas? Anmeldung zum OSM-Samstag und zur FOSSGIS-Konferenz 2020 in Freiburg im Breisgau geöffnet

Hallo, vom 11. bis 14. März 2020 werden die deutschsprachige FOSSGIS-Konferenz 2020 und der OSM-Samstag in Freiburg im Breisgau stattfinden. https://fossgis-konferenz.de/2020/ https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/FOSSGIS_2020/OSM-Samstag Die FOSSGIS-Konferenz ist die deutschsprachige Konferenz für OpenStreetMap und Freie und Open-Source-Software für Geoinformationssysteme. An den ersten drei Tagen gibt es Vorträgen und kostenpflichtige Hands-On-Workshops. Am Samstag, den 14. März findet in den Räumen der Universität Freiburg der OSM-Samstag statt. Dieser ist als Unkonferenz (Barcamp) und Mappertreffen gedacht und richtet sich an Mapper, Entwickler und OSM-Interessierte. Anders als bei der Konferenz wird das Programm nicht im Vorfeld von einem Programmkomitee festgelegt, sondern gemeinsam am Morgen in der Einführung und Begrüßung anhand der Vorschläge der Teilnehmer festgelegt. Am OSM-Samstag kann man selbstverständlich auch teilnehmen, wenn man keinen Beitrag zum Programm hat! Die Teilnahme am OSM-Samstag 2020 ist kostenfrei und unabhängig von der FOSSGIS-Konferenz möglich. Die Anmeldung erfolgt über den Ticketshop unter https://pretix.eu/fossgis/2020/. Weitere Informationen zum OSM-Samstag sowie erste Themenvorschläge gibt es im OSM-Wiki. Am Abend des ersten Konferenztages, 11. März 2020, findet die Abendveranstaltung "Schwätzli uffem Campus" statt. Am Abend des 12. März findet die Mitgliederversammlung des FOSSGIS e.V. statt. Tagging Free Water for cafés, bars, restaurant

Dear All, I thought this subject could wait, but it is becoming pressing early than I expected. As part of our project (and that of similar non-profits - most of which are not open data but nevertheless great organisations), we want to voluntarily encourage cafés, bars and restaurants to offer free tap water bottle refill to anyone off the street. Refill has had significant success in the UK and surprising the feedback is that the impact of increased customer traffic far outweighs any issue of cannibalization. If it is not already the case, I would like to work with you with on developing a tagging standard for this case which maybe we can vet in a wider OSM audience. Maybe "amenity = cafe & free_water = yes" It would be important to develop at the same time a distinct tag for another cause, which we support but will not be targeting is restaurants which offer free tap water for paying customers. Urgent translation request

Hello, The person who agreed to translate the wiki instructions from English to German for adding fountains in OpenStreetMap and fountains of photos to wikimedia commons is not responding. Can someone or some people please help out with this? We will be making a 8 minute presentation of our 100% open data and collaborative project to 860 students from 48 countries at the United Nations on Wednesday, 8th of January. Fixing missing street and place names

Some of you may have noticed that I added a "missing" column to http://qa.poole.ch/ch-roads/ end of last year, this is the difference between the total number of objects in the GWR list (with a house number) and the matches found in OSM for the municipality (1). As an anniversary project and proof of concept, over the last couple of weeks I've systematically gone through the list and have added missing streets and street names, and other place objects (mainly farms) for the Canton Aargau by using the localisation provided by the addresses from the GWR http://qa.poole.ch/addresses/ch/ to as far as possible determine the correct names and add anything that is missing. Back in 2014 I had already lifted the street names up to nearly complete by cycling to these places and checking in person, so I was already starting at a fairly high level, and actually most of the missing roads were new developments. On the area like objects one of the main issues I noticed was that, while lots of these had been mapped as landuse=farmyard and in many cases already had the correct names, but were missing a place=farm, further when addresses were present they often were using addr:street instead of addr:place to reference the place (2). In any case the net result is that of a total of 20'030 entries we now only have 41 missing, that is a 99.8% match ratio, this is better than say for Solothurn where the street data was originally imported and any other canton (the absolute difference in Basel-Stadt is smaller, but they have a factor 10 less roads). The 41 missing are typically either streets where the geometry is unclear, objects missing from the address data, or other issues with the address data, in some cases it just needs another check. For example there is a road missing in Mumpf which likely does really exist, but will need an on the ground survey to determine where it actually is as it might be partially covered. Simon (1) One of the noticeable issues with the current GWR data, particularly since the update last fall is that we have a lot more systematic spelling differences, in particular Genève seems to have changed their capitalisation policy which creates a lot of "false positives" in an area in which we previously had very good matches. I'm not proposing that anything should be done in these cases for now, at least not before we get to the bottom of it (if they've flipped one way, they might flip back next time, just as the weird issue in FR where roads are currently being declared as area objects). The matching criteria are deliberately strict to highlight such differences, but in practical terms they shouldn't have an impact in day to day use. (2) Even in the same canton there are large differences how municipalities treat farms and similar settlements, some will assign proper house numbers, some don't, some do actually name the roads others don't googlefy things.

Call for help reviewing State of the Map 2020 scholarship applications

Hi everyone, the State of the Map 2020 conference will have a scholarship program again, and the organizing team is currently looking for people to join the scholarships review and selection team [1]. They would like to set up a diverse team with a wide geographic scope, ethnic and gender diversity, and different kinds of experiences in the OpenStreetMap community.
