Yes, a new year is approaching with alarming speed, as every year since we imported the municipal administrative boundaries we will update them on the 1.1. or soon after. I've prepared (again as always) a list to facilitate splitting the work up:
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Switzerland/2017_Municipality_Mergers
Note: the Canton Graubünden is replacing its 11 "Bezirke" with 11 "Regions", not quite sure how much work that will be, but it is not really high priority.

On time, on the 1st of January the updates were done. Special thanks to gerzim and loremo for helping. Essentially I had nearly nothing to do :-)
In the mean time I've updated the municipality data on http://qa.poole.ch/ch-roads/ too to reflect the changes.
loremo has already made the changes at admin level 6 (Bezirke/districts) in Graubünden, thanks for that too. We should probably, sometime this year, do a general clean up of the borders at that level for the other cantons too, I suspect that they are likely rather out of sync (due to the many changes at the municipality level).

Hallo Simon

https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Switzerland/2018_Municipality_Mergers stimmt schon.

Cordialement, Marc
There is lots of stuff that is in the wiki that doesn't really correspond to common practice, but if you want to keep old boundaries around using boundary=historic is probably OK (note that the semantics would require the admin level to remain what it previously was).
Note this is orthogonal to mapping/modelling places that are not administrative entities, this is a general issue through out OSM, and has been discussed extensively multiple times (including recently on the osm-carto repo).
