Salut Andreas,

If you add the following code on the page of the photo at the Wikimedia: {{Object location|46.95297|7.46746|region:CH-BE_scale:5000}}

this photo will appear in numerous applications which are based on Wikimedia API and which display available photos at a location.

I added the {{Object location ... }} to one of your photos File:Installation Augenblicke (Luciano Andreani 2001) 01.jpg

and here is how it's displayed via the Wikimedia API:

http://ausleuchtung.ch/travel_pack/images.php?lat=46.952964677321&lon=7.467457652092&rd=500

It is possible to add the {{Object location ... }}  during uploading for one image and then copy it to others.
I see that there are coordinates for the whole Wikimedia category, but a category may include images from a large area, what differs from indicating the coordinates of a specific photo.

Best regards,
Oleksiy

Usually I use

image= with smallest pic with black background from wikimedia

and

wikimedia_commons=Category:Whatever

See example:

Hi Stefan,

I add sometimes image tag during surveys. For example, I added yesterday
the tourism=picnic_site at the Bois de Jussy:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/7143286065

And as you can see I also added the image tag to this node:
image=https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Bois_de_Jussy#/media/File:Picnic-site-2.jpg

The same for the model aircraft aerodrome, which I also discovered
yesterday:
https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/5960286

I carry with me a quality portable photo-camera on surveys specially for
making such images. A good photo with the GPS coordinates in its EXIF
properties removes any doubt that a picnic site or a model aircraft
aerodrome exists in this place.

Adding the image in this format:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Jussy_Modele_Club#/media/File:Jussy-Modele-Club-1.jpg

allows a mapper to see other images of this object in the Wikimedia
category immediately, i.e. to view the object from different angles, and
by this to understand better its location.

Since these are the HD photos, an experienced mapper could notice some
details, which the original author missed, and to add them on the map too.

Best regards,
Oleksiy

I've made a query on my local PG/PostGIS database os OSM Switzerland
loaded using osm2pgsql (I call it EOSMDBOne). There I can do queries
like "SELECT count(*) FROM osm_point WHERE (tags->'image') ilike
'File:%';"

The total osm_points with image tag was 1212.
The majority of image tag values contains
'https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:...', namely 849.
I only found 38 image tags with a value beginning with 'File:'.
Tag wikimedia_commons occurs 293 times in osm_points of my db (which
is close to taginfo.osm.ch).

So to me that's now a dilemma is to choose between the key "image"
with value https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:...' versus the key
"wikimedia_commons" with values either "File:..." or "Category:...".

As a consumer of OSM data I would document and implement both for now.

In any case the wiki page about image [1] is outdated regarding
"formatted as File:image.jpg" when saying
a Wikimedia Commons filename (formatted as File:image.jpg) - although
this is commonly tagged as wikimedia_commons=*

Hi Andreas,

One more piece of information which you may or may not know or not
even be interested in ::

The d/d5 in the second two urls is the first and second alphanumeric
characters of the md5 hash code of
"Drinking_fountain_in_Palmerston_North.jpg" (without the quotes).

Hello,

I have noticed that the links to images in wikimedia commons for
fountain nodes ( but I assume it is the same for other nodes, ways
and
relations) are sometimes saved as the page url, sometimes as the file
url and sometimes as a thumbnail image url.

Would it make sense for someone to run a bot and convert all
wikimedia
commons image links to the root image link? Especially the thumbnail
image links ..  maybe it's not such a big deal.

For example,

https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/6465995645
has image link
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Drinking_fountain_in_Palmerston_North.jpg

https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/6431460585
has image link
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/5c/Israel_Hiking_Map_%D7%91%D7%A8%D7%96_%D7%9E%D7%99%D7%9D_1.jpeg

https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/286879718
has image link
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/8/86/House_%26_square_of_parliament_%283625514675%29.jpg/800px-House_%26_square_of_parliament_%283625514675%29.jpg

Which one is the "root image" link?
